Cardinal's Luthierlac 2071-CLE17641 is solvent-borne semi-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer designed specifically for the fine musical instrument finishes. This product exhibits a high degree of toughness, ease of application, fast dry, cold checking resistance and outstanding buffing properties that result in beautiful, satin finishes. The coating was air dried for seven days before testing. APPLICATION:
SPRAY 1. Seal the wood using Cardinal’s 2059-CLE18773 vinyl nitro sealer. 2. Scuff sealer lightly with scotch brite or 400 grit sandpaper. 3. Apply finish with a fine finish spray gun setup using the necessary amount of atomizing air pressure to form a fine spray. 4. Recommended spray gun settings would be 6” fan approximately 9”-12” from the substrate. 5. Apply the finish with an overlapping spray technique two times for one coat. Avoid getting the gun to close to substrate to prevent air entrapment (bubbles) 6. Apply approximately 0.5-1.0 dry mils (5-10 wet mils) each coat. 7. Five to seven coats recommended. Allow seven days air dry under standard conditions to fully harden.
FINAL FINISH 1. Once the coat has been air dried for seven days the surface needs to be prepped for buffing. 2. Sand the finish with a variety of different fine grit sand papers removing any blemish or contaminant. Start with 600, then work up the final wet sand of 1000-2000. 3. Buff the finish using a variety of fine finish wheels with the Mezerna 16-18 buffing compound. The speed on the wheel should be between 750-1000 rpm. 4. For final finish use a fine polishing cloth with a water based polish compound.
