Euphonon

If you’ve heard of Euphonon Co., you’re probably asking yourself the same questions everyone is asking us lately. What exactly are Euphonon woods? Why are they more expensive, and are they worth it? If you haven’t heard of Euphonon, you’re probably asking yourself, what the heck is Adam talking about?

Euphonon Co. was owned and run for many years by Walter Lipton, a gifted guitar maker who’s been perfecting his art for half a century. Like many builders from his generation, he did a stint working for Michael Gurian in the 1970s. During that time, he started buying and collecting tone woods from all over the world. After moving to New Hampshire, he opened Euphonon Co. as both a guitar company and luthier supply business. 

Walter once told me that he used to drive down to New York City every few months to buy instrument-grade woods that a supplier friend would regularly set aside for him. After acquiring Allied, I knew I had to call Walter to see if he would sell me some wood. He was always known to have some of the best stuff around, and as a past customer for my own guitars, I knew I would hit the jackpot if I was able to get some. 

I gave Walter a call, and he said, "If you want some, you have to buy everything!" 

I drove to New Hampshire, walked into his barn, and my jaw dropped: old growth Rosewoods, Koas, Mahoganies, Ebonies, Spruce, Bubinga, Cedro, and countless other incredible finds. After three round trips from Vermont and hours upon hours moving huge pieces of tone wood, we finally moved his entire barn to our shop in Shelburne, Vermont. 

We’re so excited to offer this wood for sale, and look forward to being one step in the transformation of these raw materials into great-sounding guitars. Please don’t hesitate to ask us for anything that you may have looked for from Walter. 

So that’s what Euphonon is, and that’s why we’re so excited to continue the legacy he started, and yes, these materials are amazing, and yes, they are worth it.
