Tzalam has a similar texture, appearance and feel to walnut and is often referred to as "Carribean Walnut" even though it doesn't belong to the same genus as walnut (Juglans) but rather the genus "Lysiloma." Reported to be very workable, to take glue and finish well and also said to produce a good tone.
