Ox bone is the traditional favorite of luthiers. That's because it's the bone that's mostly available. If sheep bone were readily available it would be the favorite as it's harder and whiter. Bone is about .5 MOHS harder than ivory, and actually serves the purpose better than ivory.
The bone we offer is from the water buffalo is is less porous than the typical ox bone. If you have a special size you'd like we can special order it for you, with a minimum of 250 pieces.
  • Short: This 3/32" saddle will work for most guitars. 82 x 8 x 2.4mm (3-3/16" x 19/64" x 3/32"). Above pearwood bridge by Jeffrey Elliott.
  • Tall: Also considered a standard size, a 1/8" saddle will work for many guitars. 82 x 12 x 3.2mm (3-3/16" x 29/64" x 1/8"). Above guitar by Ervin Somogyi uses Ralph's (Novax) multiple scale system and requires the usual compensation.
